Different type of Plastic Products

2020-03-25

Plastics might just be the most common thing that we see in our daily lives. It is literally everywhere we look at. All the different items that are around us and that we use every day are some type of plastic products. Our TV set, mobile, car, refrigerator, housing materials, etc. and most of the other necessary products that we use on a daily basis have some amount of plastic in them.

Due to plastics, our lives have been made a lot more simpler, easier and straightforward. So we all must be thinking that plastics indeed are a very simple creation. However, this is not the case at all. Plastics aren’t anywhere as simple as one might think it is. All the wide array of plastics that we use are actually made from different type of plastics. In fact, some of type of plastic products are hazardous after using for some time. Some are easily recyclable and others need a complex recycling process.

Also, all the different type of plastic products aren’t made in a similar manner. The plastic manufacturers use various types of plastic materials and techniques which results in different types of products all having their own unique properties. Kamla Polyethylene And Plastic Industries are one of our companies that also produces the finest HDPE plastic products, especially for piping applications. Continue reading to know about all the different type of plastic products in a detailed fashion.

Acrylic

This kind of plastic is also popularly known as Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA). Acrylic is famous for its use inn optical devices and products. Often, it is used as a transparent and lightweight thermoplastic that is used as a shatter-resistant alternative to glass. PMMA is commonly used in sheet form to make products such as plexiglass and acrylic mirrors.

These transparent plastics can also be formed in different colors, can be made fluorescent, and even have features like non-glare, UV tolerant, abrasion resistivity, bullet resistant, anti-static and many others. In addition to being used as glass and polycarbonate sheeting, it is also much more tougher. In fact, it is actually seventeen times more impact-resistive to glass. Also, it is easier to process, easier to handle and can be used for endless applications too.

Polycarbonate (PC)

This type of plastic products are tough, transparent and stable. Polycarbonate is as clear as glass and is over two hundred and fifty times stronger. These are also more sturdier than acrylic. Despite being so strong, they can be easily worked and molded into various forms. Despite being so strong, PC plastics have a surprisingly inherent design flexibility. These plastics can be found in a wide array of objects including greenhouses, sunglasses, riot gears, DVD’s, and many more.

Polyetylene (PE)

PE might just be the most common plastic found on earth. It can be made in different densities. The varied densities of the final product of PE also gives its unique properties. Due to this, polyethylene is very popularly consumed and made worldwide. Mostly, there are four common varieties of PE. They are LDPE, HDPE, MDPE, and UHMWPE.

LDPE is low density and ductile and is used for making products like shopping bags, food containers, disposables, etc. MDPE is a little denser and is used to create gas pipes, shrink films, carrier bags, etc. Similarly, HDPE is a more rigid material used especially for piping products in water supplies and sewer applications. In addition, it is also used for boats, snowboards, folding chairs, etc. UHMWPE is a more denser PE than HDPE and is used for making body armors, biometrical body parts, hydraulic seals, etc.

Polyethylene Terephthalate (PETE/PET)

Statistically, PET is the fourth-most manufactured type of synthetic plastic. It has an excellent chemical resistivity to organic materials and water. This type of plastic also is easily recyclable, adding to its benefits. PET is a material that does not shatter in any conditions. Also, it has a very high strength to weight ratio. All the different type of plastic products can be created with PET, including containers for liquids and food, fibers for clothing, glass fiber, carbon nanotubes, etc. and many more products that we use daily.

Poylpropylene (PP)

PP is the thermoplastic polymer which is also the world’s second-most produced type of synthetic plastic. It is hugely popular and is used extensively because PP is one of the most flexible thermoplastics around. Along with being able to withstand huge amount of stress, PP is also flexible, durable, heat / acid resistive, and also affordable. These hot points makes it the perfect plastic for numerous applications. Some of its uses are in making lab equipment, medical devices, food containers, automotive parts, etc.

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)

PVC is also a popular plastic polymer that has both rigid and flexible properties. It is famous for its property to blend in with other materials when being used. Items like store displays, kiosks, and exibits are a form of expanded PVC material. Due to its rigid nature, PVC is also used in making construction materials, windows, doors, bottles, packaging products, and many more. When plasticizers and phthalates are added, a more softer type of PVC can also be attained. This can further be used for making different type of plastic products such as plumbing items, clothing, electric insulation, medical tubing, etc.

Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS)

ABS is a material formed by polymerizing styrene and acrylonitrile in the presence of polybutadiene. This type of plastic has impressive features as robustness, glossy, high process ability, and impact resistant. In addition, ABS can also be manufactured in a wide range based on its thickness and has also very low manufacturing costs. It’s products can be created with a thickness from 5mm to 1600mm. Plastic sheeting of ABS is often used in automotive and refrigeration industries. In addition, ABS is also used in manufacture of gauzes, boxes, toys, headgears, and luggages.
